Members present: Nancy Baker, Jill Lancaster, Diane Dittus, Mark Beck, Susan Williarrs, Paul Ostrof,
Rob and Romola Fritz.
Special guest: Marty Tharp, City Council Liaison to the COD
The meeting was called to order by Nancy Baker, Chairman, at 12:20 p.m. The minutes for both the July
12 and the July 26 meetings were approved after a motion to that effect by Paul and a second by Jill.
Susan reported that the Mayor's Awards committee will meet Thursday, September 13, immediately after
the regular COD meeting to stuff envelopes with invitations for the event. Jill, Diane., Rob and Romola
volunteered to help with this activity. It was decided to send nomination requests to the businesses along
with the invitations. Also, we :rll update the mailing list at the nerd COD meeting (on August 26) so that
mailing labels can be printed out by the September 13 stuffing date. The event ;vill be a brunclOunch.
Kathryn is making arrangements for the food. She made the suggestion that instead of having separate
tables for the beverages, that pitchers of these be placed on the dining tables so that people can serve
themselves while sitting down. There was a discussion about having members of a service or volunteer
organization present to help any attendee needing assistance in the buffet line. The group also discussed
numbering all vendor booths and putting a matching list in the brochure that will be handed out, to make
attendees aware of :fiat vendors are present and where they are located.
Mark announced that Project PHA is planning a debut of its presentation at a meeting on Monday,
September 10, from 3 to 5 p.m., here in the Council Information Center of City Hall. The presentation will
be geared for builders, designers, reahors and others interested in the topic_ The committee will be
requesting feedback as to how to get the concept implemented in the community and will subsequently be
taking the presentation to other community groups. Mark also announced that he has been invited to
present the program at an Affordable and Accessible Housing Summit in Boulder on Octcber 13. The
COD members discussed the possibility of Project PHA having a booth at the Mayor's Awards event
Nancy extended to Mark the thanks of the COD for creating and pursuing the PFIA concept.
The members discussed the paragraph that Ruth bad written expressing concerns about the current
Medicare restrictions on people classified as Homebound, with a recommendation for COD members and
others to contact our national legislators to express support for HR1490, which would allow Homebound
designees to leave home for limited worth:vhile functions. Any interested citizen can call, e-mail, write, or
visit a local office or visit the legislators in Washington, D.C. to express their wishes on this or any topic.
On the topic of pedestrian safety, Jill and Diane told of walking in their neighborhood and having concerns
about the Horsetooth and Timberline intersection, as well as the one at Caribou and Timberline_ Members
were asked to bring to the next meeting a list of any other intersections that they feel are dangerous for
pedestrians to cross. Pedestrian saf ty measures in both Boulder and Estes Park were mentioned as ideas
for our consideration.
Nancy welcomed Marty Tharp to the meeting. She gave Marty the information about the upcoming
Mayor's Awards event, which she and all the other Council members will be invited to attend.
The meeting adjourned at 1:40 p.m.
