HomeMy WebLinkAboutCommission On Disability - Minutes - 10/25/2001COMMISSION ON DISABILITY REGULAR MEETING MINUTES October 25, 2001 Council Information Center, City Hall West Members present: Alan Apt, Mark Beck, Ruth Bell Skogerboe, Diane Dittus, Jill Lancaster, Laura Burnett, Susan Williams, Kathryn Johnson, Paul Ostrof, Romola Fritz, Steve Seefeld, Steve Sutter, special guest. The meeting was called to order by Laura Burnett, Vice -chairman, at 12:15 p.m. Mayor's Awards: Alan reported that there had not yet been any publicity from the Coloradoan.. Both the Coloradoan and the Forum have been invited to attend the event. Steve Sutter reported that all the vendors are still planning to come. Problems with the calling list were mentioned. A number of people indicated that they had never seen the invitation. It was suggested that next year we could consider sending more typical, smaller -sized invitations because they might be better noticed. Rob and Diane will start out at the check -in desk, and Jill and Alan will spell them. The colors of the decorations will be red, white, and blue; and Diane's company, My Neighbor's Garden, is donating table centerpieces featuring American flags as well as the red, white, and blue fabric that will be used to drape the podium. Steve Sutter will check into having a signer for the program. Laura suggested that COD members sit among the audience, one per table. Diane prepared a thank you list for Steve Seefeld's use at the beginning of the program. Display cases available: Steve announced that Community Planning and Environmental Services has some display cases available for non-profit organizations. Election of officers: The following were elected officers for 2002: chairman, Mark Beck; vice-chairman, Laura Burnett; secretary/recorder, Jill Lancaster, with Diane Dittus serving as back-up; and historian/member-at-large, Susan Williams. Building Review Board meetine: Steve Seefeld told the members about the hearing that the Building Review Board was having starting at 1 p.m. in the council chambers next door. The hearing was on a request by KB homes to be excused from the requirement to build seven three -bedroom, ranch -style affordable and accessible homes in the new Provincetown development. Steve asked any members who could to attend as representatives of the COD. Accessible American 2001 Award: Because of the importance of having some of the members attend the Building Review Board meeting, the members agreed to table the discussion on the Accessible America 2001 award competition until the December meeting. Members who had written the requested paragraphs on their appropriate areas were asked to turn them in to Romola. Dial -A -Ride Video: The members set the December 13 meeting as the date for Dial -A -Ride to come to our meeting to show its new video. This meeting will be held at the Facilities building, 117 North Mason. Work Plan: The November 8 meeting will be a special session to develop the 2002 Work Plan.
