I. Call Meeting to Order:
Meeting was called to order at 1:40 p.m. by Chairperson, Mike Buderus.
II. Approval of Minutes:
Darren Gunn moved to approve minutes; Dean Miller seconded motion. The motion was
carried.
III. Citizen Participation:
Kay Rios — Catholic Charities was notified that they will no longer get funding for senior
services (Caring Hearts program). They will have to suspend services in Loveland and
curtail services here. Approximately 400 low-income clients served will be at risk. Kay
asked that a letter from Senior Advisory Board be sent to United Way requesting an
explanation of why United Way was no longer funding Catholic Charities Community
Programs for the Elderly. Dianne Heath made a motion to write a letter to United Way
asking them to explain why the service program through the Catholic Charities was
dropped. Mike Richardson seconded motion. Motion was carried. Darren Gunn
volunteered to write the letter.
Kay also brought to our attention that the Affordable Housing Board is concerned with
the potential revision of City Plan and the possible reduction of GMA. The Board is
concerned that a smaller GMA will have a negative impact on affordable housing. See
attached draft of City Plan Characteristics HN3.
Dial -A -Ride — The SAB is on a list for presentation regarding policies and procedures.
III. Correspondence:
• Letter from Marjorie McTaggart suggesting letters to the Coloradoan be addressed to
the publisher and not the editor.
• Letter from Senior Center Council requesting a Senior Advisorsy Board member
attend their annual meeting which will be held on February 24` . Bud Herin & Mike
Richardson will represent the Senior Advisory Board.
• A memo was received from City Manager's Office requesting input from Boards and
Commissions on the 2004-2005 City budget. This item was tabled for discussion at
the March 5 Senior Advisory Board meeting.
IV. New Business:
A. Introduction of new board members: Mike Richardson, John Smith, Bud Herin.
B. Review of 2002 Annual Report.
C. Review 2003 Work Plan — Scheduled work session on Wednesday, February 26`h
from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will be a brown -bag lunch to define the 2003
Work Plan.
D. Barbara Schoenberger asked for a motion for the Senior Advisory Board to take the
lead in developing and distributing a survey to evaluate programs and services at the
Senior Center. Eileen Hendee made motion and Dianne Heath seconded the motion.
The motion was carried.
E. Barbara announced that the City of Fort Collins was requesting nominations for the
Human Relations Commission Award. Mike Richardson and Eileen Hendee will
work on nominating Don Fike.
V. Old Business:
A. The Senior Advisory Board's nomination of Jo Thompson won the the Marcile Wood
Award, sponsored by the Commission on the Status of Women. She and Jim Downey
will attend the award ceremony.
B. The Board reviewed the Wine and Cheese social for City Council members and
deemed it a success. All Board members contributed to financing the event.
C. Barbara Schoenberger reported on the accreditation process for the Senior Center and
the on -site review. Our reviewer recommended accreditation. John Pfeiffenberger
will go to Chicago in March to receive the certification. After receiving certificate
John will report to City Council and make the community aware.
Other Business:
After a conversation at the beginning of the meeting, Mike Richardson recommended that
Transportation Services advertise at CSU the stop at Rolland Moore Park to keep CSU
students from parking in the Senior Center parking lot. Dean Miller will report back to
the Transportation Services the Rolland Moore Park idea.
Moonlight & Roses, an annual event held at the Senior Center to recognize couples
married fifty years or longer will be February 21, 2003.
Steve Budner is working on Tax Day Golf Tournament for the Friends of the Senior
Center. The fund raising event needs assistance in locating donations for gift bags which
need to have 128 identical items for golfers, prize items donated in of 4, or something for
the silent auction.
Executive Board will meet February 25, 2003 at 3:30p.m.
Next meeting will be on March 5, 2003 at 1:30 p.m.
