Symposium/Week of the Child (WOC)
Ann lane will attend Week of the Child meetings beginning in Oct
Lisa suggested CSW endorse WOC
Rita suggested that volunteer activities for WOC be done on a completely personal basis as far as
things like stuffing envelopes, etc She also suggested that Annmane go to the meeting to see if
the WOC committee wants something like the symposium
Members gave Ammnane suggestions about what to explain at the WOC meeting
are they interested in the symposium
that we want to create awareness about the crisis in daycare
Annemarie brought the attention to the ideas for the Symposium considered at the last meeting,
which were in the minutes
Rita suggested that CSW activities might not be the same kind of activities that are done during
the Week of the Child
Annmane suggested that maybe the Commission on the Status of Women be autonomous in
doing the Symposium
Sharon gave an up -date on her communication with Colorado State University, Toni Morrison in
Early Childhood Sharon has had a hard time getting in touch with her
Sharon said that the commission should not put on the symposium, but be the catalyst for it
Rita asked what the draw would be for big companies to come together for the Symposium
Lisa suggested a citywide survey be used to find the interest level for the Symposium Sara
suggested that commission members sit outside grocery stores to get the survey Others thought
this would skew the results Lisa suggested that there is a research class that would do the
survey for us
Rita asked about the postcard idea Annmane explained how post card thing would work
Annmarie went back to explaining what the Symposium would be like And asked what kind of
committees are needed if CSW want to do this
Members agreed there are two separate issues On site daycare, daycare for low-income
children —the two are separate and related
The question arose At what point does CSW make a decision about what to do with the
symposium idea9 Members decided the answer After the WOC meeting, after the meeting
with Colorado State University people
