Minutes for October 16, 2000

IV Announcements
The November 20th meeting has been changed to November 13th Invited guests will
be placed first on the agenda and will occupy the first hour of the meeting
December's date was changed from December 1814 to December 11 th The meeting
will be informal and will be held at Annmarie's home The meeting will be a potluck
dinner Since part of the November meeting will be dedicated to guests, the
Commission will conduct business at the December meeting
V Business Items
Work Plan 2001
The work plan must be filed before November 30th Haemi and Annmarre will work
on drafting the work plan and e-mail the draft to Commission members for
comments Haemi collected e-mail addresses from Commission members at the
meeting to e-mail the work plan as she puts it together If you are not sure if she has
your e-mail you can contact her at htcha@aol com
The Commission decided that the work plan for 2001 should focus on affordable
housing A quorum is needed at the next meeting in order to adopt the topic

Additionally, at the November meeting a sub -committee will be formed to further
investigate the topic
Barbara mentioned that the Commission may want to decide what areas of affordable
housing are of most importance Commission members are encouraged to read the
section in the report titled The Economic Realities Facing Women A Proposal for
Advancement that deals with affordable housing before the November meeting and
bring the report and ideas to the meeting
■ The Commission also decided that it should continue to look at day care and the
symposium for 2001
Revisit On -Site Daycare
■ Copies of the recent PVH newsletter was passed out that discusses a possible onsite
child care center Deb will contact them and tell them that we are supportive and ask
if there is anything that the Commission can do to help
Childcare Committee Meeting October 19 from 8 30-12 30 at the Denver Public
Library, Gates Room #5 The contact person is Jackie Smith at 303-866-3353 This
Committee was formed as a response to HB 1020 Six legislators and nine appointees
from the Governor's office are on the committee Rita will call Larry Neal to see if he
is on the committee Tam mentioned that she may be able to make the meeting
Follow-up with Deb Tamlm Overlays for Daycare and Transfort
■ Deb was unable to attend the meeting to follow-up with this topic The topic will be
carved over to the November agenda
Report on Action Items for Symposium
• Sharon met with Colorado State University, Dr Ray Yang, Human Development and
Family Studies Dr Yang expressed his willingness to meet with Commission in
order to further discuss a collaborative effort for the symposium Dr Yang also noted
that currently CSU has 100 cluldren on awaiting list for childcare CSU hasrecently
created the Institute on Family, which could also be a possible partner for the
symposium Sharon will contact this organization to find out more information
Haemt will call Sharon to see if Sharon wants her to contact people to invite to
November meeting
■ Karen Wedge was mentioned as a possible contact for the symposium The
Commission will wart to contact Karen until it knows more about the Institute on
Family out of Colorado State University
Week of the Child
• The first meeting for the Week of the Child is Friday, October 10 at 8 00 am at the
Home State Bank Sara noted that she would probably be able to attend the meeting

Annmane spoke with a representative from the committee that is organizing the week
of the child Annmane's impression is that we may want something more formal than
what the committee has in mind
Miscellaneous
Lisa was in the process of making corrections to The Economic Realities Facing
Women A Proposal for Advancement The Commission Will check with her at the
November meeting on the status of the corrections Currently there are only six
copies of the report
■ At the November meeting, the Commission will discuss its plans for Women's
History Possible ideas to focus on are possibly international women in history,
presentations at schools, and/or slide shows
Lisa and Kim will work together to compare dollars spent on children in Weld and
Lanmer Counties
Action
■ All Commission members will read the section on Affordable Housing from the
report on The Economic Realities Facing Women A Proposal for Advancement
■ Haemt and Annmane will work on drafting the work plan
■ All Commission members will provide feedback on work plan
■ Either Haemi or Sharon will contact people from CSU and invite them to the
November meeting
