(Guest Attendees) ■ Dr Ray Yang was instrumental in getting on -sight daycare for CSU The entire process took 10 years for an organization that was receptive to the concept In light of the amount of time such an endeavor could take, Dr Yang urged the Commission to understand its priorities and to determine how much time and effort it wishes to continue spending on the day care issue Dr Yang also suggested that the Commission begin mapping out goals and steps for creating a symposium such as who should the Commission talk to and who should the Commission enlist to help with the process Commission members reiterated their commitment to be the catalyst for the project, but not become the commission on day care ■ Dr Yang committed himself to check with Cliff Barbar Chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, to see if the department would be able to support in any way the symposium and/or be willing to provide some legwork Commission on the Status of could be held to raise awareness of day care needs and/or it could be held as a starting point to get people interested in forming a grassroots committee to take on the day care issue ■ Dr Yang then explained the Institute on Family at Colorado State University The Institute is an umbrella type of organization that collects faculty from the applied human sciences area and faculty that have an interest in family issues The Institute operates as a funneling mechanism for outside funding Dr Yang offered to check with the group to find out if they would be interested in planning or participating in the symposium Commission members noted that in the area of day care, they may have just touched the tip of the iceberg and should .plan on continuing the work on day care into 2001 The structure of the symposium may have to be rethought Barbara mentioned that maybe the Commission should consider sponsoring three round tables with the purpose of initiating community dialogue on day care instead of a large community symposium Sara attended the meeting for the organizing committee for the Week of the Child She mentioned that the event may not be what the Commission was looking for to launch the symposium Members of the organizing committee wish to keep the event broad instead of focusing on one specific issue Sara did note that day care providers do show up at the booths Members of the Commission discussed using the event to conduct a survey on day care needs Sara volunteered to check with the organizing committee to see if conducting a survey would be okay Work Plan 2001 ■ The Commission decided to continue focusing on day care in 2001 and to not begin any work on affordable housing Additionally, the Commission decided to not have a liaison for the Human
