Jill Stilwell Chairperson: Ayleen Burns Phone: 225-3937 (h) Vice -Chair Arm Wilmsen A regular meeting of the Cultural Resources Board was held on Thursday, February 26 at 12:00 p.m. The following members were present: Board Members present: Marilyn Barnes, Ayleen Bums, Loren Hooper, Jack Steele, John Wilkinson, Ann Wilms en Board Members absent: Staff Members present: Jill Stilwell, Libby Colbert, Cheryl Donaldson, Marty Heffernan I. Call to Order — (12:06 p.m.) Ayleen Burns II. Consideration of agenda - no changes III. Consideration of Minutes of January 28 & 29, 2004 Board requested two minor changes to the minutes Motion to accept minutes as amended—Maylin Barnes Second — Jack Steele Passed Unanimously IV. CBCA Award — Staff will contact CBCA regarding the invitations and how to publicize the award. Staff will set the reception date. Staff agreed to contact the press. Ideas included announcing the award in the Lincoln Center programs, 5:00-7:00 p.m. time -franc, cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, invite the Mayor and City Manager to the reception, and make a City Council Meeting announcement. V. FC Museum's role in the community - Cheryl Donaldson distributed a document regarding Museum activities in the community. The document was created because of Karen Weitkunat's request last sunnier to better define the role of the Museum in the community. The Board discussed how the document explained more about programming rather than the role of the Museum in the community. A committee was formed (Ayleen Burns, Jack Steele, and Loren Hooper) to work on the document and cover letter with Cheryl Donaldson and they will report to the Board at the next meeting. VI. Capital Sales Tax priorities — Marty Heffernan and Jill Stilwell explained the Capital Sales Tax Priorities process. 3/4 sales tax is coming to expire in 2005 and it is up for renewal. The 1" 1/4 c. sales tax has already been extended for open lands. The 2"d '/4 c. sales tax is designated for pot -hole repair/ street maintenance. The 3`d '/4 c. sales tax is designated for all other city capital needs which include: transportation, intersections, police, CLRS 417 West Magnolia • Fort Collins, CO 80527 -2646 ^ (970) 221-6733 . FAX (970) 484-0424 Marry Heffernan explained that the CRB's recommmendation will go to City Manager and then to Council through the City Manager. The City Manager will look at the CRB's recommendation and give his own reconunendation to City Council. Loren Hooper moved to recommend priorities Arm Wihnsen seconded the motion Jack amended the motion to read the following: If we are presented with one '/4 cent tax, the priorities are: 1) Museum addition 2) museum storage If we are presented with two I/4 cents tax, the priorities are:l) Perfomning Arts Center 2) Museum addition 3) Museum storage Marilyn Barnes seconded the motion Unanimously approved VII. CRB By-laws — the Board decided discuss this item at the March meeting VM. Election of Officers Jack Steele moved to maintain current officers: Ayleen Bums, Chair; Ann Wilmsen, Vice Chair Loren Hooper seconded the motion Unanimously approved The board decided to discuss liaison appointments at the March meeting, when the new board member will be present. Staff will provide a listing of the committee meeting times and dates to facilitate the appointment of liaisons. IX. Review of past Fort Fund Events - None X. Committee Reports - None XI. Other Business — Marilyn Barnes announced she will be absent for the March and September 2004 meetings. X 1. Adjournment 1:36 p.m. City of Fort Collins Cultural, Library and Recreational Services Fort Collins Museum FORT COLLINS MUSEUM REPORT CULTURAL RESOURSES BOARD February 2004 The Annual Donor Appreciation was held jointly with the Fort Collins Museum Foundation on February 27`h. The event honored artifact, monetary and in-kuid contributions to the Museum. February 13" marked the opening for the B7mozng the lrl'otld Holm exhibition. The opening reception attracted well over a hundred people to the event. This exhibition will run until April 25`h. Planning is underway for the second annual Crossroads at the Council Tree: Native American Music Festival. This year's event will be on Saturday, September 4 in Library- Park. Three grant requests were submmtted during the month of Februaryy. The Museum submitted a grant request to the Colorado Historical Society for funds to assist the Museum and other preservation minded organization to host a evening reception and workshop to celebrate Preservation Month activities in May. Sponsorship requests for Heritage Courtyard Summer Programs were submitted to Norlarco and the Coloradoan. Public Relations Coordinator, Beth Higgins, gave a presentation entitled `Building Community through Cultural Heritage" to the Museum Advisory Council, Fort Collins Museum Foundation, and executives from 1" National Bank. Museum Shop Manager, Lori Klemperer, attended the Merchandise Mart in Denver to seek out beer related inventory to feature during the History of Beer exhibition slated to open on June 18"'. 200 Mathews Street • Fort Collins, CO 80524 • (970) 221-6738
