Support Suprv. — Recreation Division Guest(s) Present: Karen Dike, Bob Lenk Call Meeting to Order: The regular meeting of the Youth Advisory Board was called to order by chairperson Sarah April at 7:09 p.m. Approval of Minutes: On a motion by Ana Rocca and seconded by Mera Geis, the minutes of the regular meeting of December 6, 2000 were approved unanimously (7-0). Agenda Review: No changes to agenda. Citizen Participation: Bob Lenk of the City's Human Relations Commission attended the meeting to see what the Board is doing and to let Board members know that he is to be contacted if there are discrimination issues or other matters that need to be brought before the Commission. Agenda: TELEVISION SHOW UPDATE Filming will take place on Thursday, February 1. Mera has secured a student from Centennial High School and Rocky Mountain High School to be part of the panel for the first show. The mission of the TV show is "to get the Youth Advisory Board more well known and accessible in the community and to make issues relevant to students open to discussion". The introduction on the first show will include the mission of the YAB as well as the mission of the show. Youth Advisory Board Minus January 3, 2001 Page 2 Ana will develop a survey to determine issues important to youths. Board members will receive copies for distribution when they are being trained on January 9 for filming the TV show. Copies will also be available at the YAC. The show will be called YAB — The Fish Bowl. Sarah will do fish introduction; Mark will provide the appropriate props. Other thoughts were to get music from local bands, place a round table on the ground surrounded by pillows or beanbags. Backdrop needs will be determined at the training on January 9. YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTER REPLACEMENT TASK FORCE UPDATE Ana attended a recent meeting of the task force and reported that they are excited and interested in the replacement issue. A decision was made to start a petition that will get signatures from students., Ana encouraged Board members and their friends to get involved; the adults on the task force would graciously accept their input. All youths are encouraged to support the replacement and to provide input. The next meeting will take place on January 17 at 2:30 in the Recreation office at 214 N. Howes. The YAC's lease expires December, 2001. NORTHSIDE AZTLAN COMMUNITY CENTER UPDATE None YOUTH ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE The December participation report was distributed. Dave Mosnik reported that there are still openings in the basketball league that begins in two weeks, $25 per team. The year- end report that staff is in the process of compiling will give information on the agencies that use the YAC during daytime hours. There are approximately 20 groups.
