The Funding session continued on Thursday, June 26 at 12:00 p.m., at the Lincoln Center. The following members were present: Board Members present: Marilyn Barnes, Ayleen Bums, Loren Hooper, Jack Steele, Jennifer Sterling Beccard, John Wilkinson, Ann Wihnsen Board Members absent: None Staff Members present: David Siever, Libby Colbert I. Call to Order — (2:38 p.m.) Ayleen Bums ll. Consideration of agenda - No Changes Ill. Consideration of Minutes of April 23, 2003 There was one grammatical correction to the minutes of May 29, 2003. Motion to accept minutes as amended —Marilyn Barnes Second — Loren Hooper Passed Unanimously IV. City Council "Period Review Process" update from committee - Ayleen Burns reported on her meeting with Karen Weitkunat. Ms. Weitkunat was supportive of the CRB and they discussed the history of the CRB and Fort Fund. She wanted clarification on items in the city code that refer to the CRB advising Council and City Manager on budgetary items. Ayleen Bums and Jennifer Sterling Beccard agreed to forward a copy of the Board's Period Review document to Libby Colbert by July 7, so she can submit it to the City Clerk's office. 417 West Magnolia • Fort Collins, CO 80521-2646 • (970) 221-6735 • FAX (970) 484-0424 V. Update on Selection process for Director of Cultural Services'- I David Siever reported that the position of Director of Cultural Services and Facilities had been advertised. The City is hoping to have a new director hired by the first week in September, 2003. There will be two selection panels: one comprised of staff and the other comprised of community members. VI. Review of Fort Fund process and discussion of available funding amounts — Ayleen Burns and Libby Colbert reported on available funding and there was some discussion about the amount of funding that should be granted to "Tier 3" events. The board also discussed the importance of liaisons and the recent decrease in attendance by liaisons to events. The board asked staff to provide reminders in the monthly agenda packets of upcoming events that need to be attended. VIL Fort Fund Presentations - From 3:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. the Board heard presentations from organizations applying for support from Tier #2 and Tier #3 (Special Event and Fundraising) of Fort Fund. VIII. Funding Allocations (6/26/03, 12:00 p.m.) - The Board recommended funding for the events based on numerical rankings (see attached recommendations). DC. The position was advertised on the internet with various arts organizations: WAA (Western Arts Alliance), APAP (Association of Performing Arts Presenters), WESTAF (Western States Arts Foundation) in addition to the Coloradoan and Denver papers. The position closed on July 11`h. Interviews will be conducted on August I It" and 121h. There will be two panels consisting of community members and Museum and Lincoln Center staff members. Events during July include: Front Range Music Theatre — Titanic Opera Fort Collins — Magic Flute Quick Books Training Poudre School Staff Development PERA International meetings North American Title Norlarco Credit Union Crossroads Safehouse--- -- — - - - -- Fort Collins Children's Theatre — Jungle Book Larimer County Human Services LC Summer Terrace concerts Christian Arts and Theatre — Smoke on the Mountain Wasatch Gun Show and Sale Buckaroo's Softball Banquet 7 regular users 15 private receptions VISUAL ARTS: Celebrating its twenty-second year, the Crossroads "Fabric of Legacies" National Quilt Exhibit will be on display in the Lincoln Center's Lobby and Intimate galleries July 12 through July 26. The exhibit showcases 40 quilts of more than 30 of the nation's top quilt artists as they display their one of a kind quilts. Now visitors may enter the Heritage Courtyard via the Mathews Street Gate or the Olive Street Gate on beautiful stamped and colored concrete. The Heritage Courtyard is now available for rental, and was utilized on June 2151 for a wedding. PROGRAMS The Heritage Courtyard summer programs for children started on June 2°d The Colorado Questers held a Thank You luncheon in the Heritage Courtyard on June 7°i. The luncheon was hosted by several Fort Collins Quester groups to thank the other state groups for approving the Franz -Smith Cabin as the State Quester project. FRANZ-SMITH CABIN RESTORATION The bid process for the general contractor closed on May 29"'. Unfortunately, the lowest bid came in higher than expected. Staff is currently working with the State Historic Fund, City Purchasing and the contractor to address the shortfall. NAGPRA The Museum repatriated the remains of four Native American individuals to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma on June 20-21. The individuals were reinterred at Roselawn Cemetery. Staff will begin the next phase of repatriation by consulting with the Puebloan and California tribes. The Museum hopes to repatriate the remaining 10 individuals in the Museum's holdings. STAFF The position of Curator of Education is still vacant, due to the hiring freeze imposed by the City in response to the downturn in the economy and reduction in tax revenue. A timetable for lifting the hiring freeze has not been established. EXHIBITS History Floods Fort Collins, permanent history gallery. Attendance this year is down approximately 24% from 2002. The Crossroads at the Council Tree Native American Music Festival planning is well underway. The event is scheduled for Saturday August 301h with a free day -time festival in the Park, and an evening ticketed performance by Indigenous at the Lincoln Center. The Museum is partnering with the Festival Native American Advisory Committee, the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Fort Collins, the Fort Collins Museum Foundation, CSU Native American Student Services, Arts Alive, and the Poudre School District.
