SUPPORTOUR VISION ODYSSIAD® – A JOURNEY TO THE PERFORMANCE OF A LIFETIME MISSION Dedicated to promoting new generations of young keyboard artists through an internationally linked competition and festival. A WORLD-CLASS EVENT IN FORT COLLINS With a vision to create a world-class piano competition and catapult Fort Collins into a global beacon for talented pianists from around the world, the International Keyboard Odyssiad® & Festival, U.S.A. (IKOF) was founded in 2011 by Dr. Janet Landreth, professor emerita and former chair of keyboard studies at Colorado State University. The word “Odyssiad®” was coined from Odyssey (a journey) and subsequently registered and trademarked. The motto, “A Journey to the Performance of a Lifetime,” was adopted to encapsulate the highest performance standards of the competitors in pursuit of those ideals. IKOF held its first production in 2012. Originally held in a church, the six-day summer festival included evening concerts and daily masterclasses, presentations, and workshops, plus a competition in two categories: Solo Piano and Concerto with Orchestra.   UNIVERSITY CENTER FOR THE ARTS AT COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY Now held each summer at the University Center for the Arts at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, IKOF enriches the region through live concerts by world-renowned pianists and serves 4,000+ people each year by remaining committed to modest ticket pricing that allows the broadest economic spectrum to attend. The festival features masterclasses, lectures, and presentations by world-renowned performers and acclaimed academicians with a series of matinee and evening concerts that present celebrated Olga Kern pianists from around the world to the community of Fort Collins and the surrounding areas. WORLD-CLASS PIANISTS The Odyssiad®, “A Journey to the Performance of a Lifetime,’’ competition draws aspiring young pianists from North America, Europe, and Asia, and the festival is a magnet for exceptionally talented, world-class pianists, both as competitors and guest artists. With an Olympic-style format, the Odyssiad® is open to pianists ages 7-35 in three phases of competition: a Preliminary Round judged online by experts from around the U.S., and the LIVE Semifinal and Final Rounds at Colorado State’s University Center for the Arts (UCA).   A WORLD-CLASS BRAND The International Keyboard Odyssiad® & Festival, U.S.A. depends on the generosity of corporate sponsors, financial contributors, and philanthropic institutions to grow the brand into the world- class piano competition and festival that matches our vision for Fort Collins. Your support will signal other local entities to join our promotional efforts and realize the event’s growing presence as a leading arts and tourist attraction. To that end, we respectfully request your corporate or business community sponsorship to advance the cultural vibrancy of our community while promoting the one-of-a-kind world-class music experience that the IKOF brings to the City of Fort Collins. FORT COLLINS AS A GLOBAL DESTINATION The goal of this international piano event is to provide a comprehensive and integrated holistic program that supports pianistic growth and performing wellness, while solidifying Fort Collins’ global reputation as an important cultural destination. As the Odyssiad® competition and festival have grown in stature and significance, IKOF leadership has outlined eight objectives to build on momentum: • Increase organizational and locational awareness, nationally and internationally, among Odyssiad® competitors, festival attendees, and audiences. • Continue to attract distinguished guest artists as performers, judges, presenters, and educators. • Increase the level of artistic professionalism among student competitors and population. • Increase the number of international competition participants through the online audition platform (Acceptd) for digital Preliminary Round judging. • Develop an interactive experience for community members to house and host artists and competitors as well as to serve as daily festival volunteers. • Promote the general wellness of the local senior community by providing access to free concerts for those with age- related conditions. • Nurture the younger generation of pianists by establishing international connections through cultural exchanges. • Expand the Odyssiad®’s footprint throughout the U.S. and abroad by expanding live streaming access to home-based audiences around the world. TANGIBLE IMPACT IKOF’s high programming standards provide the region with extraordinary musical experiences otherwise unavailable outside Yunchan Lim of metropolitan areas. Each summer, the Odyssiad® transcends cultural differences through the universal language of music while uniting regional audiences with talent from across the world. As IKOF events attract national and international attention from guest artists, teachers, conductors, “rising star” competitors, judges, and seminar presenters, the economic impact of new visitors has benefited local hotels, restaurants, and businesses. The accomplished assembly mentors performers during the festival via masterclasses, concerts, lectures, and social engagements. EXPERT ARTISTS AND TEACHERS All Odyssiad® judges, from the online Preliminary Round to the Finals, are prominent academics and professional pianists. Invited performing guest artists are internationally renowned pianists and competition winners themselves (e.g., Van Cliburn International, William Kapell International, Cleveland International, Chopin International, Tchaikovsky International), and frequently appear as guest artists at international music festivals (e.g., Verbier Festival, Switzerland). These acclaimed guests and presenters have deep knowledge and expertise in technical and artistic performance, as well as in multiple disciplines of pedagogy, creating productive and illustrative masterclasses for event participants and community attendees, including local teachers and students. GROWTH TRENDS IKOF has grown on every level year over year, securing its stature as a notable international piano competition and enhancing Fort Collins’ reputation as an artistic mecca of cultural and musical attractions. From increasing the quality of competitors to increasing the value of prize awards to attracting talented young pianists from around the globe, this trend will certainly continue. To further engage the younger generation of competitors ages 18 and under, the Odyssiad® now offers a Single Movement Concerto Division, providing the winner the opportunity to appear as soloist with the Fort Collins Health & Wellness Community Orchestra, while the gold medalist in the Complete Concerto Division is provided Antonio Pompa-Baldi the opportunity to appear as soloist with the Boulder Symphony in Boulder, Colorado. Additional performance opportunities are being planned. To meet the demands of a growing online community and audience, there is a live stream of the competition’s Final Round. COMMUNITY ACCESS IKOF is committed to broad community access by making all of the competitive rounds free and open to the public. Low ticket prices to evening concerts, affordable admission to daily educational sessions, and ADA compliant facilities ensure accessibility for all. Music teacher partnerships and advertising in surrounding area publications (Greeley, Loveland, Longmont, Boulder, Denver, and Cheyenne) attract diverse audiences from the region. IKOF offers scholarships for travel expenses to students with limited means and provides host families to offset expenses while in Fort Collins. With more than 25 states and 25 countries represented at IKOF events since its inception, our artistic community is multi-generational, multi-ethnic, and multi-national. Except for a few part-time contract workers, IKOF is operated by dedicated volunteers and interns (with more than 5,000 combined hours) to support the competition, festival preparations, and the final production. The organization utilizes approximately 16 Volunteer Host Families who generously provide room and board accommodations to competitors and guest artists during the event. We highly encourage corporate sponsors and community members to participate as volunteers and/or hosts. DATA DRIVEN EVALUATION Festival ticket sales and feedback from competition and festival participants provide the best sources for evaluating the program’s success. Audience surveys collected at all public IKOF events include questions to help better understand patron demographics and interests. IKOF uses social media, livestream, and website data analytics, and direct announcement responses to assess digital engagement and reach. Data is used to increase national and international participation, optimize marketing strategies for audience capture and retention, maintain the international status of Eva Gevorgyan programs and artistic offerings, and maximize local and regional business experiences by enhancing Fort Collins’ destination reputation. HOW YOU CAN HELP Support from corporate and business sponsors enables IKOF to grow internationally and continue operations despite cancellations during the pandemic.
