CALL TO ORDER Chair Gallichotte called the meeting to order at 5:05 PM. 2. ROLL CALL • Board Members Present – Jebrail Dempsey, Emily (Fitz) Fitzmeyer, Emily Gallichotte, Gina Maez, Kendall Stephenson, Julie Trone • City of Fort Collins Staff: Kayla (Redd) Redd, Davina Lau • Guest Speakers: Council Liaison Julie Pignataro, Council Member Melanie Potyondy 3. AGENDA REVIEW • No changes. 4. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION • No public participation. 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Julie Trone made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 24th, 2024 meeting. • Jebrail Dempsey seconded the motion. • Motion passed  AYE – Dempsey, Fitzmeyer, Gallichotte, Maez, Stephenson, Trone  NAY – None 6. NEW BUSINESS • Guest Speaker Introductions and Discussion – Council Liaison Julie Pignataro and Council Member Melanie Potyondy o Council Liaison Julie Pignataro and Council Member Melanie Potyondy spoke with the Board on the vision of the Board, the forming Work Plan, previous work that was accomplished, previous processes and core functions, and general advice. • Brainstorming- resources, priorities, future guest speakers o The Board brainstormed priorities, resources, and engagement opportunities. Women and Gender Equity Advisory Board REGULAR MEETING 0 8 /2 8 /2024 – MINUTES Page 2 • Work Plan Draft o The Board used the themes from the brainstorming session as well as a previous Work Plan from the Women’s Commission to format the 2024 Women and Gender Equity Advisory Board Work Plan. The Board discussed future scoping that individual members and the collective Board are set to accomplish for the Work Plan. • City Council’s Planning Calendar was reviewed and discussed for the Board’s opportunities of attendance and participation. Julie Trone has volunteered to give these updates in the future. 7. OTHER BUSINESS • Emily Gallichotte made a motion to changing the November meeting from the 23rd to the 16th • Jebrail Dempsey seconded the motion. • Motion passed  AYE – Dempsey, Fitzmeyer, Gallichotte, Maez, Stephenson, Trone  NAY – None 8. NEXT STEPS • Board members composed next meeting’s agenda. 9. ADJOURNMENT • Emily Gallichotte made a motion to adjourn the meeting. • Fitz seconded the motion. • Motion passed  AYE – Dempsey, Fitzmeyer, Gallichotte, Maez, Stephenson, Trone  NAY – None • Meeting was adjourned at 6:52 PM. 2020 work plan GOALS ● KEEP THIS GOAL: Continue to align the work plan and monthly agendas with the city of Fort Collins’ seven key strategic outcomes. ○ Track the Council’s policy agenda and, in the Board’s advisory role, provide information and appropriate comments to the City Council on issues of information gathered by the commission. ○ Infusing a strong focus on equity and an emphasis on the focus areas of the City of Fort Collins strategic objectives and plans. A focus on preparing comments, input, and reinforcement for policies that impact women and people of all genders related to the City’s six-month work session plans. • JULIE Review and capitalize on the research available from existing sources to provide a picture of the status of women in the community, foster dialogue and create the forums and synergies necessary for problem solving. • JEBRAIL Collaborate and network with local organizations and law enforcement to highlight issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, gender discrimination and poverty. - • Bring to the attention of City Council and identify and utilize key events/media outlets in the community where the materials and messages of the Women’s Commission can be effectively communicated and leveraged. • Continue to develop and leverage relationships with other city of Fort Collins’ boards and commissions around issues that impact the key focus areas of the women’s commission, i.e. attend super meetings and collaboration meetings. Brainstorming ● City council - read the 6 month calendar, comment on things, send memos, etc. ○ Getting council to pass gender-related proclamations ○ CEDAW resolution (researching, bringing it to council, getting it passed) ● Education - guest speakers, public education thing ○ Collaborating with other boards and commissions and orgs on educational events ○ Brainstorm a list of speakers ○ Work with other boards (Affordable housing board, Senior advisory board, Transportation board, etc) ■ • Continue to develop and leverage relationships with other city of Fort Collins’ boards and commissions around issues that impact the key focus areas of the women’s commission, i.e. attend super meetings and collaboration meetings. ● Researching what other gender equity boards/commissions/etc do/have done ● Researching all local gender/equity orgs in town, what they do, figuring out what already exists ● Bathrooms ○ Free menstrual products in all city-owned bathrooms ○ Diaper changing stations in all city-own bathrooms, new bathrooms having diaper changing stations ○ Having a map of all bathrooms in the city that have gender-neutral bathrooms ○ Messaging in city-owned bathrooms about domestic violence resources ○ City is working on making a map of city-owned buildings that are gender-neutral and ADA accessible (Redd is on a city group that also works on these things) ● SAFETY & TRANSPORTATION ○ Posters and trainings that the city can post on transportation about hand signals if you don’t feel safe ○ Acquiring statistics on gender-based violence ● City related-things/resources ○ Voter registration guide ○ Getting all city related documents to be gender neutral and bilingual (at least in spanish) ○ Fort Collins newsletter from environmental services, emergency/evacuation, women/girls are more vulnerable, on the website, can they add evacuation safety (things like shelters), investigate whether we can get info about why they do/don’t have that info in there ● Local resources/things to improve ○ Connect Vindeket (food pantry) and have a better way for transportation from CSU transit center ○ Mental health line that you call before you, what exists, what are the resources, etc. ○ Encouraging balanced leadership on boards and decision making table (police, fire, etc.) ○ Colorado Department of Health and Environment - getting tax removed for menstruation products, getting info on access to contraceptives and reproductive care ● LOCAL WORKFORCE - How we can examine city’s workforce and practices for equity, and larger anchor institutions in fort collins (e.g., CSU, HP, Broadcom, etc.), what are the best practices for equity in the workplace, do our big institutions follow those best practices, etc. ○ There is analysis that is done every or every other year that is analyzing each city’s LGBTQ+ initiatives within the city, it provides a list of things (Redd will track this down), Human Rights Campaign sends out an analysis ● ● Color-code things based on how long it takes ● Action items November 12th - work session, one with FoCo utilities, relevant
