AGENDA REVIEW 4. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION 5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES, May 15, 2024 Ms. Sherman confirmed the update she requested to her attendance had been made. Ms. Powers moved to approve the minutes Ms. Shuff seconded. Unanimously approved. 6. NEW BUSINESS a) Asphalt Art Project Review Anna Kelso with FC Moves was in attendance to present the project for the intersection of Magnolia, Canyon, and Sherwood. The project is funded through an Asphalt Art Initiative grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies and FC Moves. It isn’t funded by APP. She shared the final design by artist Jess Bean and its inspiration. She also outlined community engagement, the updated project budget, and proposed installation schedule in mid-August. The Board asked about signage. Ms. Kelso shared that the DEI Office has also made this request. If approved by the Board, the project will be recommended to City Council that will need to approve due to the budget being over $30,000. Ms. Sherman moved to approve the Asphalt Art as presented. Ms. Zola seconded. Unanimously approved. b) Center for Creativity Restroom Mural Review ART IN PUBLIC PLACES REGULAR MEETING 6 /26/202 4 – MINUTES Page 2 Ms. Martin presented the project design by artist Chelsea Ermer. For this mural Chelsea is painting a sunset cloudscape. The purpose for this mural is to add whimsy and surprise to the space. Ms. Powers moved to approve for the Center for Creativity Restroom Mural. Ms. Shuff seconded. Unanimously approved. c) Transformer Cabinet Artist Discussion Ms. Good shared statistics for the last five years. There was a discussion about ways to include new artists and modify the process. The Board requested to continue the discussion at a future meeting. d) APP 30th Anniversary Ms. Martin shared that the APP program started in April 1995 and 2025 will be the 30th Anniversary. Staff wants to start a discussion with the Board of ways to share the APP story. The 20th anniversary celebration was discussed as a model. It was suggested to have a celebration at the newly remodeled Center for Creativity. Staff will add this to the agenda to continue the discussion. 8. STAFF REPORT Ms. Martin shared highlights and updates; the report will be emailed to the Board. 9. OTHER BUSINESS Leslie Walker with the Cultural Resources Board shared about the granting process for Fort Fund. They are also starting community workshops. Ms. Bauer shared about a friend who was moved by seeing a Pedestrian Paver featuring a wheelchair athlete that reminded her of her son. She also shared that she went to the Chair/Vice Chair training and wanted to thank Staff for their organization. She also shared about the Church of Beethoven at Avogadro’s Number as a favorite summer activity. 10. ADJOURNMENT 4:54 PM Minutes approved by the chair and a vote of the Board/Commission on XX/XX/XX MONTHLY UPDATES: ASPHALT ART, Magnolia, Canyon and Sherwood Intersection: FC Moves has received Asphalt Art Initiative grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to create painted mural/infrastructure at this intersection. Artist Jess Bean was selected for this project. This project went to the July 16 council meeting with a proposed installation date of August 14–18. The project is asking for volunteers to help paint. They can sign up on Engage. CENTER FOR CREATIVITY (FORMERLY THE CARNEGIE CENTER FOR CREATIVITY), 200 Mathews St.: The project team will select artists from the Design Consultant List for the two mural projects. Artist Chelsea Ermer has completed the restroom mural. Image in progress on next page. COLLEGE AVE. SIGNALS, College Ave at Pitkin, Columbia, and Harvard: The project team selected Mark Leichliter from the Design Consultant List. The design was approved by the Board. The Project needs approval from CDOT to install on the signal posts. COLLEGE AVE. AND TRILBY INTERSECTION: The project team will select an artist from the Design Consultant List. DESIGN CONSULTANT LIST: You selected the next group of Design Consultant artists at this meeting. ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER FLOW RESTORATION, east of Timberline on Drake: Artist Katy Casper presented her design to the board and the project was approved. The artist is working with the team to revise the timeline and other details in the Scope of Work. I-25 AND PROSPECT INTERCHANGE: Artist Stephen Shachtman was selected for this project and currently meeting with the team. LAPORTE BRIDGES, Laporte Ave. between Grandview Ave. and Taft Hill Rd.: The team selected James Lynxwiler from the Design Consultant List. The project has been installed. The team is working on signage at the site. LAPORTE CORRIDOR, Laporte Ave. between Fishback Ave. and Sunset St.: Staff will issue an RFQ for a Colorado artist. A new City Project Manager has been assigned to this project. MIDTOWN IMPROVEMENT, College between Boardwalk and Thunderbird: Staff will issue an RFQ for an artist within a 75-mile radius of Fort Collins. There will be different phases to this project. NORTHSIDE AZTLAN COMMUNITY CENTER CHILDCARE PROJECT, 112 E. Willow: The project team has selected artist Gale Whitman. The team will begin meeting shortly. CI T Y O F FO R T CO LLI N S Art in Public Places Program Staff Report — July 17, 2024 Artist Jennifer Ivanovic worked with The Lincoln Center to create a painting to be translated into window clings around the b uilding. OAK STREET STORMWATER IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, Oak Street from Jackson Ave. to Mason St.: Artist Mark Aeling was selected for this project and is meeting with the team to develop the art for the site. PEDESTRIAN PAVER PROJECT: APP staff is developing the digital files for the 2024 designs. The 2023 pavers will be in fabrication shortly. PIANOS ABOUT TOWN PROJECT: Artist Chelsea Ermer completed her mural on Monday, July 15. The next artist, Kara Johnson, started today, July 17. POWER TRAIL AND HARMONY CROSSING, Harmony Road between McMurry Ave. and Timberline Rd.: Artist Todd Kundla is meeting with the project team. SCHOOLSIDE PARK (FORMERLY BACON PARK), Timberline Rd, near Bacon Elementary: Artist Gregory Fields was selected for this project. The team will start meeting with the artist shortly. STREAM REHABILITATION, Mail and Fossil Creek Confluence and Spring Creek at Edora Park: Andy Dufford and his team are fabricating this project. We are working together on an installation date. THE LINCOLN CENTER VINYL PROJECTS: The Lincoln Center hired artists to design artwork for the facility van vinyl wrap (Mike McPuff) and window clings (Jennifer Ivanovic). APP helped with an artist call and contracts. The work is completed. TIMBERLINE & LINCOLN INTERSECTION: The project team will select an artist from the Design Consultant List. TRANSFORMER CABINET MURAL PROJECT: Selected artists are developing mural concepts for their sites. The Board reviewed the first group of designs today. UTILITIES PUBLIC ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM, location to be determined: Allie Ogg’s was approved by the Board and City Council. Allie is currently working on this project with Utilities. WATER TREATMENT FACILITY, Laporte west of Overland Trail: Todd Kundla’s project was approved by the APP Board and by City Council. This project will be installed soon. WEST ELIZABETH, between Shields St. and Overland Trail: Artist Mark Leichliter is currently meeting with the project team and developing art for the project. Artist Chelsea Ermer paints her mural in the all gender restroom in the Center for Creativity
