PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT UPDATE Community Development & Neighborhood Services Planning & Development Services 281 North College Avenue P.O. Box 580 Fort Collins, CO 80522.0580 970.221.6376 970.224.6111- fax MEMORANDUM Date July 12, 2024 To From Re Chair Stackhouse and Members of the Planning & Zoning Commission Em Myler, Neighborhood Development Liaison July 2024 Public Engagement Update The purpose of this memo is to provide the Commission a monthly review of staff efforts to engage the public in Development Review as well as preview upcoming work of interest. June Public Engagement by the Numbers • Neighborhood meetings – 1 Staff Update DRAFT Neighborhood Meeting Purpose Statement The City of Fort Collins knows that development can have a meaningful impact on neighbors who live, work and play nearby. Because of this, when someone wants to build something new, we often require a neighborhood meeting, where anyone can come learn about the project, ask questions and share their feedback. This meeting is just the beginning of a long process in which the city checks every part of the project to make sure it follows our rules. After reviewing the evidence and public feedback, an appointed decision maker will approve the project if it complies with city rules. The decision maker will use staff’s evidence and public feedback to ensure the project is legal and can be approved. They can only deny a development application if it breaks the law, not because they or the public don't like it. To keep this meeting on time and productive, we ask that you follow these basic ground rules: Ground Rules: Respect the room. • Raise hand and wait to be called on before unmuting yourself. • Don’t talk over others. • Ask one question at a time. It’s okay to disagree, but do so with respect. • Keep an open mind. • Critique ideas, not people. • Give constructive feedback. Stay focused on the topic at hand. • Be brief and concise, time is limited. • Stay focused on this project, there are other ways to engage on other City topics. • Reach out to Liaison anytime to chat about questions or comments. City staff has the right to remove themselves from any situation which feels unsafe or end the meeting if these rules are broken repeatedly.
