PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT UPDATE Community Development & Neighborhood Services Planning & Development Services 281 North College Avenue P.O. Box 580 Fort Collins, CO 80522.0580 970.221.6376 970.224.6111- fax MEMORANDUM Date February 9, 2024 To From Re Chair Katz and Members of the Planning & Zoning Commission Em Myler, Neighborhood Development Liaison February 2024 Public Engagement Update The purpose of this memo is to provide the Commission with an annual review of staff efforts to engage the public in Development Review as well as preview upcoming work of interest. January Public Engagement Neighborhood Meetings – 1 • Blue Spruce Vehicle Sales and Rental, January 8 Upcoming Work Neighborhood Meeting Purpose Statement DRAFT The City of Fort Collins knows that development can have impacts on the lives of those living, working and playing nearby. Because of this, we require a neighborhood meeting for many development proposals. Neighborhood Meetings happen before the project goes through development review, where City staff reviews the proposal. After review, a designated decision maker decides if we will allow the land use based on the rules set out by our Land Use Code. The purpose of this meeting is to tell you about the project and give you a chance to ask questions of City staff or the applicants. A record of this meeting will also be given to the decision maker as part of public comment. We know that neighbors may have feelings of support and/or opposition to development in Fort Collins and aim to make this a space where these can be aired. In many cases, the neighbors’ ideas can be included in development plans. However, while we value your feedback and try to use it when we can, the City of Fort Collins is only able to decide to approve or deny a proposal based on whether it follows the Land Use Code.
