Senior Advisory Board Minutes
Wednesday May 10th 11:30 am
In Person meeting 1200 Raintree Drive
Fort Collins Senior Center
Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Fort Collins City Council
on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to
contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community.
I. Call to Order: 11:30am
II. Public Participation

III. Administrative Items
a. Attendance:
Myles Crane, Alicia Durand, Alan Kress, Deanna O’Connell, Mary Roberts, Bruce Henderson,
Council Member Susan Gutowsky
Excused: David Kovach, Gabby Rivera
Staff members: Sarah Olear, Lisa Hays.
b. Approval of January minutes Motion: Alicia Durand. Second Deanna O’Connell. Unanimously
approved.
c. Correspondence – None
d. Six Month Calendar Update – Sarah will keep updated monthly.
IV. Today’s Guest Speakers: Ensight Skills Center Fort Collins.
a. Denny Moyer, CEO, Melody Bettenhausen, COO and Amy Heath
Have been operating for 22 years providing a fully comprehensive program for anyone
with low vision or vision challenges.
Nationally accredited.
Person centered evaluation and process improvement.
V. New Business:
a. Recent City Council Activity – Council member Susan Gutowsky
1041 Regs discussion in progress
Occupancy U+2
SB 213 repealed
Bringing community together to hear from all on land use code issues.
b. Intergenerational Discussions – CSU Gerontology Club
Will be conducting quarterly intergenerational conversations.
c. SAB member recruitment
SAB has current openings for new members. Working with the City of Fort Collins
Boards and Commissions staff to fill as soon as possible.
d. SAB – open forum
Deanna – changing the narrative from Seniors to Older Adults
Alicia – Wish of a Lifetime (wishofalifetime.org) Denver area.
Mary – Develop a questionnaire to use when speaking to older adults in the community.
Alan – Working on keeping older adults in their home as long as possible through
physical therapy and rehab work.
Bruce – Working with recreation staff on a summer bike ride for older adults. Talks about
safety and riding skills.
VI. Ongoing Initiatives

a. Motion to approve Bruce Henderson as the SAB liaison to the BAC. Motion Alan, Second Alicia.
The motion was unanimously approved.
b. Community Outreach 2023 continuing Dave’s April meeting discussions
What is the ask when attending community meetings?
Want to hear older adults concerns regarding living in Fort Collins
Meet with older adults where they live.
Understand what we can and cannot do to avoid perception of over promising.
c. Affordable housing information for older adults – Sarah
d. Housing – Mary/Alan – Housing priority group has not had a meeting since February.
e. Transportation – Think bike workshop using Nederlands as a model.
f. Safety and Wellness – Deanna – End of covid emergency responses at UC Health
g. Office on Aging – Alan – Spring Resource Forum was held. Had a lot of respondents, not many
in-person participants.
h. Senior Center – Sarah
i. Future SAB Guest Speakers – Alicia has ideas of other to invite to be guest speakers.
