The Commission on Disability serves as an advisor to the City of Fort Collins City Council on
issues relating to citizens with disabilities. In its role as an advocate for citizens with disabilities,
the Commission on Disability: develops educational programs to acquaint citizens with issues
affecting individuals with disabilities; forms special committees to review and address particular
issues; works together with other Boards and Commissions and the City Council to provide
recommendations to assure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the
1990 Americans with Disability Act (ADA), the Fair Housing Act and other legislation relating to
persons with disabilities; and serves as ombudsman between City departments, the private
business sector, and the community of citizens who have disabilities. During 2021, the
Commission members were as follows:

Regular meetings via Zoom through 2021 on the 3rd Thursday of each month January through
November 2021 and the following highlights were accomplished:
Facilitation of TransFort policy and development improvements:
o DAB advocated effectively for people with disabilities to receive equal access to
pass services: Those affiliated with CSU or City of Fort Collins can now use Dial a
Ride for free along with employee/student pass.
o Input on North College Max Project Planning
Adaptive Modes program kick off:
o DAB provided input to FC Moves/FC Bikes on increasing access of program to
individuals with SPIN e‐bikes lending program and survey input to FC Moves in
RFP for e‐transit options & adaptive modes of sustainable transit.
Support of the Mayoral Proclamation of National Disability Employment Month on
October 5th, 2021:
o DAB, in collaboration with ARC of Larimer County provided a promotional short
film on hiring of people with significant disabilities for the Proclamation.
o “America’s Recovery: Powered by Inclusion,” reflects the importance of
ensuring that people with disabilities have full access to employment and
community involvement during the national recovery from the COVID‐19
pandemic.
Participation in Accessibility Assessment of Community Services Division
Building standards improvements with building review board: wider doorways to
bathrooms, visit ability elements included.
The DAB Community recognition awards continue to be postponed indefinitely until it is
safe to gather in large numbers.
