HomeMy WebLinkAboutSenior Advisory Board - Minutes - 07/14/2021 1 City of Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board Minutes Wednesday July 14, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. Virtual Meeting on Zoom Fort Collins, Colorado Mission: The Senior Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Fort Collins City Council on programs and policies that help aging citizens live full and interesting lives and continue to contribute, participate, and share in the life of the community. I. Call to Order a. Meeting was called to order at 11:30am II. Guest introductions - Aaron Fodge, and Erika Benti - Julie Seidle III. Public Input - No public input IV. Administrative Items a. Attendance i. Myles Crane, Alan Kress, Alicia, Julie Seidle, Nancy Luttropp, Deanna O’Connell, Suzanne King, Gregory ii. Excused absence: David Kovach, Sarah Schilz b. Correspondence c. Approval of Minutes - Motion by Deanna, 2nd by Alicia. d. Six Month Calendar V. New Business: Discussion Topics with Guest Presenters a. Dr. Julie Silver Seidle, OT, CSU At est. 11:45 am Dr. Seidle will discuss various helpful projects and initiatives that she and CSU students are participating with regard to older adults. - Center for Community Partnerships o Mission – Supporting the inherent dignity, potential and full participation of all people. o Service Areas – Acadmenic Success, Supported employment, Life skills & community engagement, Student veteran programming, Sleep services o Primary Populations Served – University students, Transitioning young adults o Goals  Provide community supports and services that allow older adults to thrive in their communities of choice.  Build the capacity of future health professionals to work effectively with older adult populations.  Strengthen community-academic partnerships to work collectively in addressing the evolving needs of older adults in the community. o Current projects  Community based programs  Dementia care partner dyads  Social isolation  Mental health and well being 2  Lifestyle redesign  Community collaborations  Programmatic needs assessments  Program development and evaluation  Health services research team.  Healthcare experiences of older adults  Dementia caregiving. b. Aaron Fodge, Alternative Transportation Manager at CSU at est. 12:15 pm will address the Vision Zero Task Force an initiative to eliminate traffic related deaths on Fort Collins roadways and trails - Presidents zero vision task force o Strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and severe injuries among all road users, and to ensure safe, healthy equitable mobility for all. o International movement first implemented in Sweden in the 1990s now gaining momentum in American cities. o Commitment to vision zero requires.  Leadership, collaboration, and accountability  Data collection and analysis  Prioritizing equity and community engagement  Managing speed to safe levels  Setting a timeline to achieve zero traffic deaths and serious injuries. o First university in the country to have their own vision zero initiative. o Vision Zero: policy recommendation of “Recommendations to enhance transportation safety on campus” (2020)  Infrastructure  Policy  Enforcement  Education o Task force renamed to “Presidents Vision Zero Task Force” o Aligned with sustainability initiatives. o A positive public relations statement that safety is a priority for Csu and enrolled students. o Milestones to implement Vision Zero at CSU  Complete streets standard  Safety and access assessment  Crash evaluation reporting  CSU conceptual review  Annual traffic Safety and prioritization report  Administrative Evaluation of Vision Zero Milestones o How can CSU be safer and more accessible to all?  Barriers and sidewalks have affected seniors who travel on campus. VI Ongoing Business: Motion/Discussion: Follow-up re. June 9 meeting with Senior Policy Advisor to Governor  What can we do as a board to help this position continue on a permanent basis?  Not endorsing any one person. Not supporting any political party or agenda. Only looking out for needs of residents of Fort Collins.  Motion to accept by Deanna  2nd by Alicia  Unanimous approval Discuss Future Meetings: In-Person vs Virtual 3  6 people voted to keep it on zoom.  3 voted to have in person. Council Meetings: SAB Representation  Myles will send out sign-up sheet for volunteers to represent SAB. Senior Center Updates – Zach Delissio – no updates currently. Status: Integrated Transportation Considerations – Alicia Durand  No developments currently. She has contacted Ross Cunniff.  Tabled for the time being. VII SAB Member Bio: Nancy Luttropp - Attended University of Wisconsin - Major in English minor in Recreational Therapy - Did not like Colorado at first. - Helped establish the crisis center in Fort Collins. - Went back to grad school and got a degree in social work. - Started working as the director of the Senior Center. - Nancy is a world traveler. VIII ANNOUNCEMENTS - Gregory will be attending the bicycle committee meeting on July 19th to represent the SAB. -
