The Golf Board advises and makes recommendations to the Director of Community
Services and the City Council as to rules, regulations, policies, administrative and budgetary
matters pertaining to the operation and maintenance of all City owned golf courses; City
Park Nine, Collindale and SouthRidge.
The City of Fort Collins Golf Board held 9 Regular Meetings & 3 Course Outings. Board
Members were, Michael Hardisty, Ross Liggett, Kathy Meyer, Bob Pawlikowski, James
Penland, Tom Rock, Jon Schmunk. Terms expired in December for both Kathy Meyer and
Jon Schmunk, both were eligible for reappointment.
The Board elected officers were Kathy Meyer, Board Chairperson, along with James
Penland, as Board Vice Chairperson and Tom Rock as Board Secretary.
Susan Gutowsky served as City Council Liaison to the Board. Mike Calhoon, Director of
Parks along with Scott Phelps, Manager of Golf, Dawna Gorkowski, Parks Finance
Supervisor and Dawn Worth, Golf Administrative Assistant, provided staff support to the
Board. Valerie Van Ryn and Emily Frare provided Marketing updates.
1. GOLF BOARD STRUCTURE AND GOALS
Continued to be advocates for City of Fort Collins Golf Division.
The Board attended the Respectful Workplace Training.
2. BUDGET/FEES
The Board was updated monthly on the financial status of the Golf Division.
Reviewed the recommended 2020 fees in October.
o There will be an increase in cart rates in 2020.
Increased net revenue by $157,753
3. ROUNDS/ANNUAL PASS SALES
In 2019 we had 74,808 Rounds.
We sold 445 passes in 2019.
o Youth Annual Pass sales tripled from 2018.
4. TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES
VSI staff conducted training in January.
The GolfTrac system upgrade took place in February.

Regional Partnerships
o Continued to research opportunities for partnerships.
Social Media
o Created consistent social media presence.
o Provided staff with administrative access to all social media platforms.
o An editorial calendar was implemented for collaboration & tracking purposes.
o Implemented a monthly newsletter.
o Live League & Tournament posts.
o Created Bogie Bart videos.
Will roll out in 2020.

Website Maintenance & Improvement
o Continued to work with IT to reform the City’s golf page for better navigation.
Digital & Print Advertising
o Partnered with the Hilton to include a digital ad in their new interactive lobby
display. Developed Google & social media advertising campaigns. Collaborated
with Pro staff to develop branded printed content. Recreator advertising & cross
promotion.
Partnerships
o Continued our partnership with CSU Athletics, Dellenbach, First National Bank &
Pedersen.

6. COURSE EVENTS
Had a successful league & tournament season. City Championships were successfully
held at all three courses. Started 18-hole Twilight at Collindale & Southridge. Made the
Prime Time & Non-Prime Time uniform at Collindale & Southridge.
City Park Nine
o Disc golf charity event.
o Matt Magley started PGA Get Golf Ready Classes in the schools.
Collindale
o Hosted the U.S. Open Qualifier & Collindale Invitational.
o Hosted Fort Collins Women’s Open.
o Collindale Club Championship.
o Volunteer appreciation outing.
o CB & Potts was awarded the Collindale Food & Beverage Concessionaire RFP
in December.
Southridge
o Hosted Quad High Tournament to benefit High School golf in Fort Collins.
o Started Junior Golf Summer Academy
Will transition to a full instruction academy in 2020.
7. COURSE IMPROVEMENTS
City Park Nine
o Over seeded and heavy topdressing of #2 & #9 tee boxes.
o Sod work by #4 tee boxes.
o Tree removal by Forestry
Collindale
o Completed cart path project by #6 tee.
o Completed sodding of cart path along #8 green & behind #4 green.
o Sodding project on both sides of #13 bridge.
o Cart path paving project on south side of #14 bridge.
o Roll Over Protection (ROPs) were installed on Utility Vehicles at Collindale.
o Forestry removed 12 trees.

Southridge
o Replaced netting on the north side of driving range & added new skirting around
the entire driving range, along with additional netting repairs.
o Pump systems were pulled for rebuilding.
o 20 dead or falling trees removed by Forestry.
8. SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
The Board were strong advocates for the Southridge & City Park Nine irrigation projects.
o Irrigation RFP for design went out in December.
Randy Conard is a representative on the City’s Sustainable Team.
Composting of organic matter at all courses.
Continued integration of electric and hybrid equipment at all courses.
9. POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Updated the Policy & Procedure Manual for the Board to review in January.
10. STAFF UPDATES
Administration
o Hired Scott Phelps as the Golf Manager in July.
City Park Nine
o Ralph Miller was hired as the City Park Nine Assistant Superintendent.
o Patrick McGowan was hired as a Technician at City Park Nine.
o Matt Magley was hired as the new Golf Professional at City Park Nine.
Collindale
o Doug Evans, Collindale Superintendent, announced his retirement in January.
Position was posted in December.
o Mike Enright resigned as the Assistant Superintendent at Collindale.
o Randy Conard moved to Collindale as the Assistant Superintendent.
o Vince Buelk was hired as the new Golf Professional at Collindale.
o Casey Anderson, Technician at Collindale, was recognized for his work on the
Board of Directors and acting as Treasurer for the Rocky Mountain Regional
Turfgrass Association.
Southridge
o Kathy Knadler, LPGA, was hired as the head instructor.
Kathy runs Girl’s Golf sites for the LPGA/USGA.
